Senior in Vancouver, WA Reunited with Lost Cat Thanks to Petco Love Lost

When Sharon and her husband moved into their cozy new condo in the Vancouver, Washington area, they thought their biggest challenge would be arranging furniture, not launching a full-on neighborhood search party for their cats. 

Shortly after settling in, an unlocked window gave both of their beloved felines a taste of the great outdoors. One cat, Sundance-Kid returned almost immediately, but 1-year-old Louie vanished without a trace. 

“We were absolutely devastated when he was gone,” Sharon said. “We looked everywhere.” 

The couple canvassed their neighborhood, knocked on doors, and searched every nook and cranny. Still, no Louie.  

Turning to Petco Love Lost for Help 

Desperate for answers, Sharon visited the Humane Society for Southwest Washington, a Petco Love Lost Partner, where staff encouraged her to try our free lost-and-found pet database. She uploaded Louie’s photo and listed him as missing, clinging to hope that someone might spot him. 

The Message That Changed Everything 

For 11 long days, there was silence. And then— hope arrived in the form of a message through Petco Love Lost. 

A kindhearted stranger said she’d spotted a cat who looked just like Louie perched on the roof of a nearby veterinarian’s office who then jumped into a storage lot filled with RVs. 

The two women scanned the lot carefully, and the good Samaritan pointed toward one particular RV. Sharon crouched down, held her breath—and there was Louie, peeking out from underneath, safe but understandably anxious. 

Home At Last 

Louie is now back home, soaking up extra cuddles and maybe just a little extra treat or two (because, let’s be honest, he earned them). 

“He’s just part of our family,” Sharon said. “We both feel like our cats add so much to our lives because of our age, and we don’t know what we would do without them.” 

A Reminder of the Power of Community
