Award-Winning Entrepreneur Daymond John Joins Petco Love Board of Directors

Move Further Bolsters Leadership Team as Foundation Surpasses $185MM in Total Contributions Since Its Inception

San Antonio, TX – Petco Love, a leader and valued partner in animal welfare, today announced that award-winning entrepreneur Daymond John will be joining the organization’s Board of Directors.

A life-long animal lover, John first found a calling for animal welfare causes through his interactions with dogs sheltered at a no-kill facility operated by his stepfather in New York – a facility which continues its lifesaving efforts to this day. He currently has two Dachshunds named Blake and Spartan, and also raises guinea hens and shelters over 1,000,000 bees on his property in upstate New York.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to work with Petco Love team, a first class organization made up of passionate advocates dedicated to the welfare of animals,” said John.  “In my personal life, I have always looked for ways to support animals and have been fortunate to use Shark Tank as an opportunity to invest in businesses that create a better life for pets and their owners. I am excited for the road ahead and working with the rest of Petco Love team.”

Best known for his pioneering work as CEO and Founder of much-celebrated global lifestyle brand FUBU, as well as his role as a Shark on the Emmy Award-winning TV show Shark Tank, John will join an esteemed board in helping to shape the future of the Foundation’s lifesaving efforts across the country. This addition comes as the Foundation has eclipsed a $185MM milestone in total contributions since its inception in 1999.

“We are thrilled to welcome Daymond John to our Board of Directors and look forward to the depth of expertise and awareness he’ll bring to our cause,” said Charlie Piscitello, Board President of Petco Love. “As we reflect on the milestone of $185MM invested in animal welfare, we are thankful to the countless number who have been critical to our efforts and heartened by the continued outpouring of support in our mission to raise the quality of life for pets and people who love and need them. We have proven that small acts of kindness, like a few dollars donated each time you shop, collectively, results in big impact to save animal lives.”

Recent investments place heavy emphasis on organizations that inspire and transform their communities to take action towards reducing euthanasia and implementing programs that save lives. Organizations receiving recent lifesaving investments include:

  • Charleston Animal Society↗, an organization that became the first lifesaving community in South Carolina in 2013 and didn’t stop there. They used their Petco Love investment to launch No Kill South Carolina – a statewide initiative to bring training, support and resources to more than 350 animal organizations across the state.

  • Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC),↗ New York City’s only open-admission animal shelter, which has tirelessly worked to save more lives through innovative pet retention initiatives and improved medical care, that ended 2016 with a lifesaving rate of more than 89%–an all-time high for the city.

  • HeartsSpeak↗, a global network of artists and photographers donating their time and talents to animal welfare organizations across the nation ensuring shelter pets are seen.

Petco Love directs many of its investments to organizations that are significantly under-resourced for the number of animals that depend on them, providing the crucial funding necessary to save lives. Like the more than $500,000 invested to aid in the recovery and rebuilding efforts of animal welfare organizations in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area who were devastated by 2016 record-setting floods.
