Minnie’s Story

Pet Cancer Treatment Helped Minnie the Cat Find Her Family

Isaac/Julia + Minnie

Adopting Minnie made it feel like home, with every little antic adding more joy and love. But what pet parents Isaac and Julia are even more appreciative for, is that Minnie got a second chance before even meeting them.

"She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to us, she makes us so happy. It means everything that she’s here and she’s healthy."

Isaac and Julia always knew they wanted a cat … a cuddly, playful cat to shower with love. “We wanted a cat that was going to be happy being the only child basically,” said Julia. Philly PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society) knew the perfect match – Minnie liked to have her own space and didn’t care much for other cats or dogs but was very affectionate with humans. Right away, Minnie let them hold her, and Isaac and Julia were hooked.

Their house became a home with toys and cat trees for Minnie. Minnie was the sweet addition to their day-to-day life that made everything better. “She’ll come into bed and sleep in between us. It’s the best thing to wake up in the morning and feel her curled into my arm,” said Julia. “At the end of the day, whoever gets home from work is treated to a slew of cuddles,” said Isaac. “She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to us. It means everything that she’s here and she’s healthy.”

Minnie was able to receive the medical care she needed before finding a loving home thanks to Petco Love and Blue Buffalo Shelter Pet Cancer Treatment Fund – a grant opportunity that helps Petco Love partner organizations with the cost of pet cancer treatment for animals currently in their care or recently adopted. Pet cancer is the #1 disease-related killer of cats and dogs and can often be cost prohibitive for sheltering organizations to treat. Petco Love and Blue Buffalo together have invested more than $16 million to help fight pet cancer, and this fund which launched in 2019 aims to help provide lifesaving cancer for shelter pets in need.

“We’re so grateful that people helped save her life,” said Julia. “Even after all she’s been through, she is so friendly and loving and warm, even towards strangers, so it’s clear that people were really good to her and that means a lot to us now.”

Minnie continues to do well, running around, making sure she wakes her parents up for playtime and feeding time, and commanding attention when it’s focused on laptops and cell phones. And Isaac and Julia are forever happy for being able to make Minnie a part of their family thanks to the care she received prior to adoption.

“It’s hard to imagine life at home without Minnie,” said Julia. “We’re so grateful she’s in our lives. We love her so much.”
