Petco Love, in partnership with Blue Buffalo invest in organizations that assist with covering treatment costs for families who can’t otherwise afford care. Below are a few of the organizations supported through this campaign that might be able to help with the costs of pet cancer and other veterinary treatments. If you are interested in seeking support, please reach out to the organization directly; Petco Love does not accept individual requests for support.
Colorado State University Flint Animal Cancer Center
Name of the Fund:
Petco Love and Blue Buffalo Foundation Cancer Treatment Support Fund
Who/what does it fund?
The fund is intended to help cover costs associated with oncology (diagnosis and treatment) for those pets with specific diagnoses, often in conjunction with clinical trials, to advance treatment effectiveness. Funds are aimed to reduce the cost of treatment for those with a need.
Geographic region in which funds will be used:
Any patient of Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital is potentially eligible as long as they meet the other eligibility requirements, regardless of where they have traveled from.
How to apply?
Cases qualify based on specific diagnoses and intent to pursue specific treatments as pre-determined by the Flint Animal Cancer Center. Extenuating circumstances are approved on a case-by-case basis by members of the senior leadership team of the Flint Animal Cancer Center.
Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine

Who/what does it fund?
Funding care for pets with cancer whose owners would like to access this specialized care, but the costs prohibit further treatment.
Geographic region in which funds will be used:
National. Predominantly NY, NJ, VT, NH, ME, MA, RI, PA and CT
How to apply?
Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine has limited patient assistance that is made available to patients through donations. Foundation for Animal Care and Education

Who/what does it fund?
Funding care for pets with cancer or immediately life-threatening conditions whose owners cannot afford care

San Diego County

Louisiana State University

Petco Love & Blue Buffalo Foundation Cancer Treatment Support Fund
Who/what does it fund?
Support for clients who have been through diagnostics and have a positive outcome with treatment, but are experiencing financial hardship. We also fund diagnostics for the companion animal alliance that’s located on the university campus and is a local shelter for the City of Baton Rouge.
Geographic region in which funds will be used:
All of Louisiana, southeast Texas, Arkansas, southwest Mississippi.
How to apply?
Application is given by oncology service after initial examination identifies pet as a qualified candidate.
The Mosby Foundation

Funds veterinarian care for dogs with cancer whose owners cannot afford care.

North Carolina Veterinary Medical Foundation

Who/what does it fund?
Facilitates cancer treatment for dogs and cats in households that need assistance to provide care. There is also funding available for companion zoological animals.

How to apply?
Pet parents should talk with their primary veterinarian about the potential for participating in the program when their pet receives a cancer diagnosis. The owner’s primary veterinarian can then discuss the case with the oncologists at NCSU to refer the case, and consider the potential eligibility for support.
Ohio State University Foundation

Who/what does it fund?
Funding to assist qualified owners of pets diagnosed with cancer to seek treatment and enrollment in a clinical trial who otherwise could not afford care.

Texas A&M University

Who/what does it fund?
This fund is used to support therapy for cats or dogs with cancer who’s owner is able to demonstrate a financial need. We match funds with the owners who need them to pursue therapy for their pet’s cancer.

Any patient of Texas A&M University Small Animal Hospital is potentially eligible as long as they meet the other eligibility requirements, regardless of where they have traveled from. As the only veterinary school in a large region we try to serve all those who make the effort to travel to see us.
How to apply?
An inquiry may be made during any appointment with the oncology staff or doctors. They can help determine if the client is eligible and provide the application information.
UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine

Who/what does it fund?
Funds veterinarian care for dogs with cancer whose owners cannot afford care.
Geographic region in which funds will be used:
Northern CA, Reno, OR, WA, AK, ID, UT, MT, ND, and MN

Who/what does it fund?
The fund provides care to pets suffering from cancer whose families are facing unusual financial hardship.

How to apply?
The client applies after initial evaluation of the pet with the oncology team at the UF Small Animal Hospital. Clients need to apply for care credit or be able to pay a portion of the estimated cost of treatment. The decision is then made by the Associate Dean of Clinical Services.
University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine

Who/what does it fund?
The fund covers a portion of cancer treatment costs for qualifying cats and dogs whose owners cannot afford the full cost of recommended care. Pets must be in otherwise adequate health and be expected to have a good quality of life following treatment. Additional parameters may apply.

Funds help offset the cost of treatment for animals being treated for medical, surgical, or radiation cancer treatment, or complications from the cancer treatment of their pet.
Geographic region in which funds will be used:
Any oncology patient of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine’s teaching hospital, UW Veterinary Care location in Madison, Wisconsin, is potentially eligible as long as they meet eligibility requirements, regardless of where they have traveled from.
How to apply?
Inquire during any appointment with the oncology staff or doctors. They can help determine if the client is eligible and provide the application information.
Virginia Tech Animal Cancer Care and Research Center
Name of the Fund:
Petco Love & Blue Buffalo Foundation Cancer Treatment Support Fund
Who/what does it fund?
Virginia Tech Animal Cancer Care and Research Center (ACCRC) is a comprehensive cancer care and clinical research center offering integrated services, including medical, surgical, and radiation oncology, and frontline cancer diagnostics and treatment for dogs and cats. Funding from Petco Love helps offset the costs of comprehensive cancer care for qualified candidates.
Geographic region in which funds will be used:
Roanoke, Virginia, as well as communities in Southwest Virginia and West Virginia.
