Adopted Bunny Shows Family That Life is Better with a Little Whimsy
For Jet and his rabbit Willow, a sweet, shy bunny named Whimsy brought joy, fun, and lots of love to their family.
Jet + Whimsy
A sweet brown bunny named Whimsy had been waiting for years to find her perfect match. Then when Jet and his rabbit Willow came along, it was love at first sight—for both of them.
"I am always in disbelief that Whimsy could be overlooked for something as silly as her color. She is truly one of a kind, and so full of personality! Seeing her loving, gentle spirit, along with her silly antics, has reminded me that we all have something that makes us special."
We’ve all been there. Nerves, awkward conversation, hoping we don’t do something embarrassing… Yep, the dating world is a scary place! That’s exactly what my rabbit, Willow, was thinking as I brought him to the rabbit rescue, where I volunteer, to find a friend. After meeting with a couple of ladies, he cycled through the typical dating scenarios: Trying his best to remain polite, planning his escape route, and looking at his dad to plead for help.
“What about her?” I asked Jennifer, the woman who runs the rescue. I gestured to a large, brown bunny who I had come to know as a shy sweetheart during my time volunteering.
“That’s Whimsy, she has sadly been here for quite some time.” Jennifer told me that she had trouble adopting out her brown-colored rabbits. Apparently, people viewed them as “too plain,” and that stigma had this poor, sweet rabbit sitting in the rescue for years.
“Let’s give her a try!” I exclaimed, hoping for the best. Luckily, as it turned out, this overlooked bunny was exactly the perfect match for Willow. She was definitely not “plain” to him as he approached her, offering kisses and snuggles. It was love at first sight… for both of us.
I’d never had a bunny as big as Whimsy before, which only made her a prime candidate for snuggles, in my opinion. At least, whenever I can pry her away from her hus-bun, that is! Truth be told, they look like a pair of big russet potatoes running around the living room—and here I thought my garden was supposed to be outside. Not only has Whimsy brought joy into Willow’s life, but since bringing her home, Whimsy has taught me many valuable lessons that have also changed my life for the better! Here’s what I’ve learned so far:
Take some time to frolic in the flowers.
Life is hectic. Watching Whimsy enjoy herself in the sunshine after years of waiting for her forever home reminds me to enjoy every moment, and to not take the time I have for granted.
Remember to eat your vegetables.
You would think that as a vegetarian, I don’t need a reminder of this one. (Ice cream does not apparently count as a healthy food). Adding Whimsy into our family encouraged me to grow my own garden, so I have fresh veggies to eat and to share with my furry family!
You’re perfect as you are!
I am always in disbelief that Whimsy could be overlooked for something as silly as her color. She is truly one of a kind, and so full of personality! Seeing her loving, gentle spirit, along with her silly antics, has reminded me that we all have something that makes us special.
The list could go on. There are honestly so many reasons this girl has made my life better, but I will leave you with this: Life is simply better with a little fun, and some Whimsy.
