Rescued “Super Cat” Brings Joy with Every Pounce
From day one, Leon’s playful antics kept his family smiling.
Diana + Leon
From toy lover to chore inspector, Leon’s comical antics keep his family laughing — and keep stress at bay.
"Having a bad day? Leon can fix that. He'll put a smile on your face in no time, guaranteed."
Leon might be the funniest cat in the world. His joy and silliness radiate throughout our home and touch everyone he meets. Having a bad day? Leon can fix that. He’ll put a smile on your face in no time, guaranteed. We lovingly refer to him as our little goofball, lovebug, jester or clown as he entertains us daily with his feline antics.
Still a kitten at heart, Leon loves toys — whether it’s his mousie-on-a-stick, stuffed catnip fishy, the purple spring he carries everywhere or, best yet, flinging this soggy unrecognizable furry thing (that ultimately ends up in our bed) into the air. Need a little respite from chores? Leon’s got you covered. It may take longer to finish with him “helping” by inspecting the dryer and clean laundry, or bringing you that wet toy fresh from the water bowl while you’re cleaning the litter box, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.
One evening after my husband had a particularly stressful day at work, Leon sauntered into the living room wearing the plastic cover from a 24-pack of bottled water on his head. As he walked towards us, the plastic cover shifted and now Leon’s head was sticking out of one of the two large holes in the sides like he was wearing Superman’s cape. It definitely worked: we laughed so hard, the stress magically disappeared.
Leon dons his plastic superhero cape to lighten the mood and saves the day through laughter. We don’t know how he came up with this invention. He must have sensed the anxiety and wanted to help in his signature comic style. This plastic “cape” is still a thing with him, ever-evolving into new silly games. We’re constantly amused by Leon’s creativity — to him everything has toy potential.
This goofus even manages to be funny when he’s sleeping. We’ll hear snoring and find him sound asleep in his green tube, in a cardboard box that’s way too small, or stretched out on the sofa on his back, legs sprawled out and head upside down in some awkward position you wouldn’t think possible. He always makes us chuckle.
Leon loves everybody and everybody loves Leon: family, friends, the cat sitter, and our other six rescue cats — including cranky senior Sumi. He’s the designated official greeter; anytime someone visits, he’s in their lap purring within the first five minutes. We joke that they only stop by to see Leon.
It’s hard to believe this same cat was super shy when we met him for the first time. Back then our household consisted of four female cats and my husband was feeling a bit outnumbered. When we met Leon at his foster home through All About Animals Rescue, he was in the corner watching the other foster cats play. You could tell he wanted to join in but just didn’t have enough confidence yet. Long story short, we fell in love, took him home and we all won the kitty jackpot.
