Adopted Dog Helps High School Student Shine

With Coco by her side, Anna found the confidence to live life to the fullest, and help other adoptable pets get their second chance.

Anna + Coco

High school was not always easy for Anna, but adopting a dog named Coco helped brighten her life and boost her spirits. Together, Anna and Coco advocate for adoptable pets and volunteer to help other animals find happy homes.

"Since our family adopted sweet little Coco, my life has changed for the better. She has given me the confidence to know there is plenty of love to give and receive. "

My teenage years haven’t been easy. High school was painful, full of rejection and disappointment. I’m sure the little 1-year-old Chihuahua felt the same way sitting in an animal shelter in North Carolina.

Thanks to Paws for Life NC animal rescue, we will never feel sad or hopeless again! Coco was rescued, and so was I. Since our family adopted sweet little Coco, my life has changed for the better. She has given me the confidence to know there is plenty of love to give and receive.

I’m more active, more involved with school, and Coco has taught me to enjoy every day to its fullest. We can be together and hold our heads high. Life is so much brighter with an adopted pet. The sun shines down on us both, and it feels amazing to let the warmth in.

With the help of Coco, I now volunteer my time helping families in the community by collecting donations for their pets so they can stay together. By doing so, I share awareness of the local animal shelters that are full of pets that need forever homes.

On the weekends we help the very rescue group that brought us together, Paws for Life NC. We help set up and run the adoption events at Petco! I know we are making a difference in the lives of homeless pets, just like Coco helped make a difference in my life.

Each year, Petco Love Stories invites adopters to share how their pets have changed their lives to give the organizations that they’ve adopted from the chance to receive grant awards. This story by Anna won Paws for Life NC in Youngsville, North Carolina a 2021 Love Stories award.
